This song is the most perfect song and Stuart Murdoch is a lyrical genius. It captures so well the feelings of still being in love, and the craziness that comes with that, both through the lyrics themselves and just its delivery, and oh man, just that B&S sound! So fun, great guitars and horns, and there’s seriously like so many words in here you’d think it’d be too much but Stuart fits them in, amazingly so. The way he sings each line, his inflections and timing coupled with the melody, is perfect every single time.
Also, story of my life.
Breaking off is misery I see a wilderness for you and me Punctuated by philosophy I’m wondering how things could’ve been.
I’d like to see you, But really I should stay away And let you settle down I’ve got no claims to your crown I was the boss of you And I loved you, you know I loved you It’s all over now
And I was there for you When you were lonely I was there when you were bad I was there when you were sad Now it’s my time of need I’m thinking, do I have to plead to get you by my side?
“I, as a Japanese, tell you all over the world that Japanese medias are completely insane. They deceive people by introducing intellectual scoundrels heavily inclined to nuclear power to the public and by letting people believe in what they misleadingly and malignly say. For example, a professor of one of the eminent Japanese university insisted on TV that inhaling plutonium is healthy to the body!! These kinds of scraps are aired every day. I am abysmally in despair!!”—
